About Us
Somerset Steel Erection Company, Inc. is a subsidiary of Riggs Industries and was incorporated in Pennsylvania in 1957. We specialize in the design, engineering, and complete turnkey construction of foundations and miscellaneous steel, material handling systems, emergency repairs, process, and power piping, along with the construction of outside facilities using Chief Industries’ pre-engineered buildings. We have worked extensively in the power generation, steel, coal, paper, food, aggregate, oil and gas, and chemical industries.
The company was started by Sidney Riggs and Warren Mostoller in 1957 with just a $500 loan. Their success was a result of a good business ethic and old-fashioned hard work. Today Riggs Industries operates Somerset Steel, Lincoln Contracting, James A Redding, Somerset Welding & Steel, J&J Truck Bodies & Trailers, and J&J Truck Equipment. It was run by Sidney’s two sons, Bill and Dan Riggs and is now being run by the third generation. They employ close to 600 people making Riggs Industries one of the largest and most diverse companies in Somerset County, Pa. Prior to his death in 2006, Sidney was also an active farmer raising Angus cattle, ostriches, and llamas at his beloved farm, ErReR Hill Farms. During the course of his lifetime, Riggs contributed to many charities and causes including the American Cancer Society, 4-H, and the Boy Scouts of America.
